One of the biggest trends that came out of NYFW for Spring’13 was black and white geometric prints. We at Natty Paint have always loved the simplicity of two colors, intersecting shapes, and its retro vibes. Our favorite collection from NYFW for was Marc Jacob’s Spring’13 collection.
Here are a few of our favorite looks from Marc Jacob’s collection, images courtesy of ELLE UK:
We were so smitten with the sequined black and white checkered and striped dress above, but after seeing the multi-thousand dollar price tag on Moda Operandi, we decided to save some cash and make a version of our own. After scouring the NYC garment district,we noticed no one was selling black and white sequined checked or striped fabric (Future trend alert!), but we did find a black and white wave pattern which is similar. FYI we spend $95 on all the material to make this dress.
We made sure to give this dress a similar optical geometric feel to the Marc Jacob’s dress. We cut the strips for the bottom skirt so that the waves alternate in vertical and horizontal directions.
We still have tons of work to do on it, like add in the black chiffon gore panels, make sleeves, sew the skirt and top together, and add an invisible side zipper. But we will post the finished dress as soon as it’s done!
Natty Paint has designed some of our own black and white optical prints. Check out this Dot & Stripe Button Down we made for our Spring 2012 collection, which we paired with charcoal & cream Hexagon Leggings for our lookbook shoot.
Here’s a detail of the Dot & Stripe Button Down so you can see just how trippy this print is:
Here’s a preview of some pieces from our latest collection: Psychedelic Beach S/S ’12
You can also check out our SS’12 lookbook on our website and become a fan of our facebook page to receive the latest updates about the line. We’ll have photos of the line from our beach photo shoot in a month or so.
All our SS’12 prints were designed and custom printed for the collection. What’s a spring and summer collection without vibrant floral prints? Pair our floral tops with our cool color blocked blue shorts or with this spotted purple high waisted skirt and you got yourself a dynamic mix-and-match splash look. All silhouettes are available in other prints as well.
If colors aren’t your thing, don’t worry! This sheer button down shirt with gray hexagons legging and our seagull romper will make you look chic and edgy without losing the summery feeling! They can be worn from day to night, from the city to the beach, if you feel like taking a long walk. And while you’re at it, you can mix it up with our sheer tank top and seagull shorts (shown below) if you feel like showing off more of your sun kissed skin.

The presidental election is in Nov 2012! Put your stars and stripes gears on this summer to show off your USA pride! And what’s a better way to cheer on the candidates than to wear our USA inspired prints? These outfits will take you right from a rally to the voting booth and then a party or two after that. We have many U.S. prints to choose from that are perfect for the election, July 4th, or even for everyday wear. Our bold kaleidoscope print appears on many different silhouettes in our SS’12 line: silk tanks, t-shirts, and dresses.
And don’t forget the palazzo pants! Comfortable yet chic at the same time. Perfect for an afternoon stroll in the park, the beach, the museum, or around the city.
