Check out Claire Hux‘s new music video for their new single Grab On, in which Natty Paint makes a cameo! The video was directed by Brian Morrison, who also filmed a few of Lazerbitch’s music videos.
Filming was a lot of fun, and I helped style the girls for the shoot. I’ve been friends with the guys in Claire Hux for a while now and love working with them!
You can become a fan of Claire Hux on their Facebook Page.
And FYI, Claire Hux is named after Claire Huxtable of the Cosby Show, a very classy and sassy woman indeed!
It’s amazing how the last post on our blog was over 2 months ago! Where has the time gone?! However we’ve been so busy and have so much to tell you about.
First of all, as of 2011 and this EPIC post, the NP blog is going to be heading in a different direction….instead of only NP related news, we’re going to be blogging about interesting occurrences/revelations/inventions in the fashion and business worlds. The blog is also going to be an examination of the business of having a clothing company.
So why have we been so busy?! Natty Paint is going pro!
1)As of January 2011, Natty Paint has become Natty Paint LLC!
2)We’ve been working very hard on preparing to enter the clothing industry with our fall 2011 line, which is going to be the first line we are going to have manufactured professionally in factories! This is going to allow us to get our designs into more stores, so we can “natty-ify” many more people.
Here are some pics from sample creation from the fall 2011 line to get you as excited as we are!
What’s going on here? Free t-shirt goes to the best answer!
We’re now selling at Better Than Jam at 1095 Flushing Ave in Bushwick, Brooklyn! Stop by the store to check out our reworked vintage, spandex dresses, and tees and say hi to Karin, the shop owner!
I spy some NP from the co-op front window!
Karin loading up the rack with some NP fresh off the press! Looks like she’s moving very quickly…
This past weekend, I Bolt Bussed it to Baltimore to help my friends in Claire Hux shoot a music video for their new single Grab On. (Soon to be released!) The video was shot by Brian Morrison, who also shot Lazerbitch’sCoquette video. Natty Paint designed and printed some shirts for Lazerbitch a while back, check them out HERE.
The video involves a bunch of girls auditioning for a role, with the members of Claire Hux, Symbol and Daren, picking the talent. I helped style and dress the girls for the shoot, and was in it myself!
I’m not going to give anything else away, but check out the pics from the shoot here!
That’s me! In Natty Paint!
Check out the green screen!
I’ll be sure to post the video on here when it’s done!
After the Birthed from Within fashion show, my best friend and I hurried over to The Ram’s Head in Baltimore to see La Roux. I’m a huge fan of their music and their fashion sense, and have been so for quite a while now! It was always a dream of mine to be able to give them some NP, and when I found out one of my friends who also modelled for NP was a friend of one of the keyboardists in La Roux, it all came together!
So, after the show, I ended up going backstage and meeting La Roux! Elly and Mickey loved the clothes, and we got some great pics together.
Here’s a pic of Mickey signing an adoring fan’s shoe while wearing a Natty Paint vintage blazer with our dragon design!
And here’s a pic of Elly and me hanging out in the dressing room.
Everyone was very chill and down to earth, which was incredibly refreshing. It’s great to meet people my age doing what they love to do, being successful, and still being down to earth and approachable. I found out afterwards Rye Rye also stopped in to say hi after the show, I must have just missed her!
On November 3rd, Natty Paint participated in a fashion show in Baltimore with Unparagoned Models Inc. They pulled out all the stops, including having a catwalk and multiple dance routines. It was a great time and everyone looked hot in Natty Paint’s fall/winter 2010 line!
We wanted to spread the word about NP at the show, so we attached stickers and business cards to condoms (courtesy of Johns Hopkins’ Health Center!) and left them on the chairs for the show. It was a hit!
We decided to play Willow’s Whip My Hair for the show.
If you haven’t seen her video or heard the song yet, you MUST CHECK IT OUT HERE!
I learned what a flood was too, it’s when all the models walk out at the end of the show and clap.
For Halloween, my friend and I incorporated Natty Paint into our costumes. She was a bird and I was Katy Perry. We made these wings for her bird costume with old sheets, feathers from boas, and fabric tape. Check it out!
Tada! Minus the beak! You can get the NP Dot Top with the triangle lace back HERE and the Glitter Broncosi leggings HERE. Both are part of out fall/winter 2010 line.
Feather aftermath!!
My costume was less involved. I just got some flashy plastic jewelry at the dollar store and a wig.
I wore the acid bubble spandex dress from NP’s summer 2010 line.
Since moving to Brooklyn, it’s been difficult to find a routine with a very busy and chaotic schedule-balancing Natty Paint and a part-time MBA all while in a new city with so many exciting things going on. Two things that were constants in my life in Baltimore while Natty Paint was starting up were my diet and exercise:being vegan and Bikram Yoga.
I’ve decided after much deliberation, I don’t want to be vegan anymore. I like having many more food options available and miss things like eggs and greek yogurt. And now I can eat other things! Like goat cheese! The list keeps going… But milk will not happen, EVER. I hate milk.
I have also decided it’s time to pick up Bikram again, as it is the ultimate way to destress, relax, and clear my head. Today was my first day returning to practice Bikram Yoga. Luckily, there’s a studio super close by in Williamsburg! YES!
After getting back from class, I see I’m tagged in new pic on Facebook of a Bikram yoga instructor wearing a Natty Paint custom Bikram Yoga Hampden shirt, standing next to Bikram Choudhury himself! EPIC!
We’re going to work on getting Bikram his very own shirt to wear at teacher training. Bengal tiger strength, bulldog determination!
